Paralegals are legal assistants. They help attorneys in delivering legal services. Paralegals gain legal knowledge through education and experience. They work for government office, law office, and corporation. Lawyers strategize and analyze, paralegals do all the work that arises from analyzing and strategizing. Paralegals can be licensed. National Federation of paralegal Associations (NFPA) and National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) are two national organizations who offer designation to paralegals. Paralegals need to meet all the rules and regulations set by the organizations. Only graduate degree does not certify the paralegals. Those who pass the Paralegal Competency Exam conducted by NFPA are called registered paralegals.
